CRUISING LOG of ANIMA
  March 11:
Red Sea: Sudan to Egypt

In Suakin we had to wait for nine days for reasonable weather to head north. Even when we left - Anima again with Margarita - we still had to fight headwinds for quite a while, but finallz it was calm and we managed to arrive in Port Ghalib, Egypt after four days. And one hour alter the winds picked up again with 20-25knots out of the NW. Just in time!!!

Port Ghalib Marina is situated in a holiday resort complex. It all looks very sterile and artificial, but after weeks of very basic places in the Red Sea the cruisers enjoyed the facilities here like internet access, shore power, fresh water, etc.

Since it was blowing from the north for a couple of days, we did some inland touring from here, visiting the famous sights at Luxor and then the pyramids and the museum in Kairo. The valley of the kings, the paintings in the tombs, the temples, the Cheops-pyramid, the golden mask of Tutenchamun are absolutely fantastic and amazing impressions. All this was disturbed by the pushy and aggressive Egyptians trying to sell you junk souvenirs, a camel ride and other things you really do not want.

Back in Port Ghalib we kept looking at the forecasts and finally after 9 days five yachts left for the seemingly last leg towards the Suez canal...
