CRUISING LOG of ANIMA
  SEPTEMBER 09:
From Bora Bora to Niue

Waiting a few relaxing days for my new crew-buddy Wolfgang in Bora Bora, who arrived on September 12th, after four months in French Polynesia we finally sailed to Aitutaki, on of the Cooks Islands.

The passage was fast and comfortable. The entrance into the lagoon was tricky, ANIMA with her 1,6m draught was just about to fit in on high tide. Aitutaki is a wonderful place, a stunningly beautiful lagoon, much less influenced by tourism than Bora Bora.
We rented a scooter for three days to see the Hinterland and took a guided boat-tour to several islets inside the lagoon.

After four days of sightseeing and pleasant evenings with the guys from MIGRATION and PURA VIDA, we set off for Beveridge Reef, another unique spot in the South Pacific! A reef without land, just beautiful colors where you drop the hook in about 3 meters. We had a great time with six other yachts, one of them caught a 70kg tuna, so there was plenty of fish for everyone!

Niue was the next stop, the largest limestone island of the world. Light winds made for a slow 130nm passage, but we where lucky catching a 1,20m Dorado. About exploring Niue by land and sea you will read in the October report....
